Looking to level up your crochet game with a project that's both cozy and rewarding? If youโ€™ve ever wondered how to crochet a blanketโ€”and actually finish itโ€”youโ€™re in the right place. Whether youโ€™re going for texture, speed, or a soothing rhythm, a handmade blanket is one of the most satisfying things to create with yarn.

Below youโ€™ll find two go-to blanket patterns to try: one with a fun chevron ripple and one thatโ€™s as simple as it gets. So grab your yarn, pick a hook, and letโ€™s make something snuggly!

Easy Double Crochet Blanket (Perfect for Beginners!)

Want a blanket thatโ€™s as relaxing as it is beautiful? This oneโ€™s just rows and rows of double crochetโ€”no increases, decreases, or tricky shaping. Itโ€™s a great choice if youโ€™re just learning how to crochet a blanket and want something quick and mindless.

Size: Totally up to you!
Difficulty: Beginner
Skills Used:

  • Chain (ch)

  • Double Crochet (dc)

Simple DC Blanket Instructions

Step 1:

  • Make a foundation chain in the length you want your blanket to be (a baby blanket might be 70โ€“90 ch, a throw could be 100โ€“130 ch)

Step 2:

  • Dc in the 3rd ch from your hook

  • Dc in each stitch across

  • Ch 2, turn

Step 3:

  • Repeat dc rows until your blanket reaches your desired length

Thatโ€™s it! One stitch, no stress. Want to jazz it up? Try alternating yarn colors every few rows or using self-striping yarn for a gradient look.

Other Blanket Ideas to Try

If youโ€™re feeling adventurous (or just want options), here are more ideas for what kind of blanket you can crochet:

  • Granny Square Blanket โ€“ Make a bunch of mini squares and sew them together! Great for using up yarn scraps.

  • Striped Blanket โ€“ Change colors every few rows for a fun, modern look.

  • Color Block Blanket โ€“ Use big, bold sections of different yarn colors.

  • Corner-to-Corner (C2C) Blanket โ€“ Diagonal crochet magic! Slightly more advanced, but very cool.

  • Textured Stitches Blanket โ€“ Try bobbles, half doubles, or front/back post stitches for dimension.

And of courseโ€ฆ you can always just freestyle it! As long as it keeps you warm and happy, you're doing it right.

Now that you know how to crochet a blanket, the only question is: where will your yarn take you next? Whether youโ€™re zig-zagging with chevrons or cruising through rows of double crochet, every stitch adds up to something soft, squishy, and totally handmade.
